Voice input
Use your voice for everyday text entry
Dictidy lets you speak a draft into the app you are using. Configurable shortcuts and optional text cleanup give you another way to write emails, notes, and messages.

Free app · Apple Silicon · macOS 13.3+
Local dictation is free. AI cleanup and rewriting use your Anthropic or OpenAI key; provider charges apply.
A focused alternative to typing every sentence
Place your cursor in a text field, press your dictation shortcut, speak, and press the shortcut again to stop. Dictidy transcribes the recording locally and pastes the result. It works in most standard text fields in apps such as Mail, Notes, browsers, and editors.
You still need a way to place the cursor and activate the shortcut. Dictidy is not a complete hands-free computer-control system, and we do not claim that it meets every assistive technology need.
Choose a setup that works for you
- Install the app on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13.3 or later. The self-signed app needs first-open approval.
- Use the setup wizard to grant Microphone and Accessibility access and download the roughly 1.6 GB speech model.
- Choose a dictation shortcut you can activate comfortably.
- Try a short sentence in the text fields you use most. Check that recording, stopping, and pasting work for your setup.
- If a result misses the field, use Copy Last Text or Paste Last Text from the menu bar.
Keep transcription local, or add cleanup
Dictate works offline after the model is downloaded and needs no API key. Audio is processed on your Mac and is not uploaded.
Dictate + Clean can tidy filler words and grammar, but sends the transcript to Anthropic or OpenAI with your API key. It requires internet access and separately billed provider usage. You can also select existing text and apply a saved rewrite instruction. Review the result before using it.
If you need to control the Mac by voice
Apple’s Voice Control includes voice commands for navigating apps, clicking controls, dictating, and editing text. That broader scope is worth exploring if activating a keyboard shortcut or moving the pointer is a barrier.
Dictidy’s macOS Accessibility permission enables copy-and-paste automation. The permission name does not establish accessibility certification or compatibility with another assistive tool. Test your own combination of apps, input methods, and settings.
Cost, storage, and support
Dictidy and its local transcription are free, without a Dictidy account or app-imposed word cap. Optional history is stored on your Mac; the app has no telemetry. See the privacy policy and contact page if you need help or want to report a barrier.
This guide describes text-input options and makes no medical or health-outcome claims.
